# Resolve Unicode with Copy Paste Characters

Copy Paste Characters resolves Unicode characters: what each one is, what it does, and which fallback to use when a target was not tested. The pinned release is Unicode 18.0.0.

## Exact lookup

One request. The id is a hex scalar, or up to eight hyphen-separated scalars. Do not put free text or private text in the URL.

`purpose` is `general`, `terminal`, `web`, or `identifier`. `view=short` keeps the schema, the citation, the unknown destination, and the first fallback. The default response is the full document. `targetCompatibility.status` is `unknown` until a named environment was tested. `inReference: false` does not mean the scalar is unassigned. `localFont` is a bundled-font fixture when `/reference/v1/local-font-matrix.json` loads, and null when that scalar was not in the fixture. A fixture miss is not a missing glyph. `confusables` lists at most eight UTS #39 skeleton-mates from `/reference/v1/confusables.json`. `inTable: false` means that file has no row for the scalar. It does not mean the character is visually unique. There is no MCP server.

Each character includes `visibility`. `visibility.class` names the scalar. `visibility.ifMissingGlyph` is a conditional sentence about a box or a blank. It does not say the glyph is missing. `visibility.age` comes from DerivedAge when `/reference/v1/unicode-age.json` loads, and it is null when that table is missing. `visibility.previewFont` is present only when this site's bundled preview font lists the scalar in its cmap. `visibility.destination` is `not-tested`. Age and a cmap hit are not a phone, operating system, font file on the destination, or app result.
